Karen “Francesca” James is an accomplished artist whose modern works range in styles from abstract human form to heavy texture on canvass, creating a sculpture-like effect. Her paintings have show in galleries in Santa Fe and Dallas. Currently her work is at Cerulean Gallery, in Dallas.

Karen creates one-of-a-kind works of art by layering mixed-medium textures and acrylic paint then sealing the canvas with a high gloss, creating a stunning effect.

Like sculpture, the paintings are designed to be touched and create a type of interactive art experience for the art lover. Her paintings range in color and style with bright, bold colors to white pearlescent and neutral tone pieces.

Karen’s art is inspired by her late husband, who encouraged her, just a few days before he died, to pursue a new style she was experimenting with that had a modern heavy abstract form.

Karen’s abstract human form paintings spark a range of emotion from playfulness to contemplation.

Her “Thinker” series consists of several pieces that feature a sculpture-like human form in serene settings, evoking spiritual intrigue and highlighting her use of color and texture.

She is also known for her popular abstract personalities that feature out of proportion, Picasso-style feet.

In addition, Karen paints outdoor abstract paintings. The pieces are treated to withstand harsh weather conditions. For art lovers, the pieces are an opportunity to display their collection on a patio or even poolside, providing a popular conversation piece.
